WIP: Bachianas Brasieliras. No1 - v.0.1

I keep doing progress in Bachianas Brasileiras templates. Last days I was experiencing an apparently rare bug of Impress, which forbid me to save more than one background in a only Open Document Presentation (ODP format).

But now I discovered a way to solve partially the problem [see my comment] and already made the first version (still Work In Progress - version 0.1). Because the bug, Impress can make few mistakes opening the file, so be patient when trying it.

All the backgrounds are in 1600x1200px PNG format. The first color theme is Green 1, and the next will be Blue 2, Orange Accent and Purble 1 - all picked from the current LibreOffice palette. For the typography, my options are limited since I don't know how to include (or even if it's possible) a font source in the template file yet. So my choice was the beautiful an sans-serifed Ubuntu's font. There's something special in this font that wins me since the first time.

I ask your opinion to correct and improve the work already done and direct the next steps of this Work In Progress, which probably will the create bullet images, slides with footnotes and include some other cool resources. By the way, do you usually make use of bullets? I generally don't use them in my presentations.

Finally I need to say Thank You to jumbo444, who tell me about the Master Page feature, which helps me a lot!

  1. Hello Paulo,

It's me again! I downloaded your template, and here are few remarks.
    - your should change extension of your file to OTP instead of ODP to be a "real" template.
    - you made 7 slide masters, which may be too much. If you want to simply change Language of font, you will need to change it on all masters, that is to change styles: Background object, Notes, Outline 1, Title and Subtitle (other Outline should change automatically with Outline 1)
    - may be removed unnecessary slides, just keep first one, as other are saved as master slide
    - master slide names may be more meaningful

    Good luck!

By the way, your bug was already present in all OOo 3.x version. See:

  2. I'd like to correct some points:
You may keep all your slide, because on the 5th step of the presentation wizard, user may choose which slide to keep. In this case, slide name should be more meaningful than Slide1, Slide2,..., but Title, Summary, Main points, Idea, Citation,...

  3. Hi jumbo444 - what's your name? :P

Thank you for testing it and help me with tips to improve it!

    - About change the extension, the only presentation format allowed by LibreOffice Wiki was ODP, so I commented in the wiki that you need to change the extension to OTP. But I'm not sure if is visible.

    - Yeah, these 7 master slides was terrible to manage... But I'm not sure if there's other way to allow switch between the 7 background that I created. When I need a new slide in a real presentation using this template, I need go to Slide Design so select a master which fits to Slide Layout. It's just to change the background correctly. Maybe there's another way to switch between backgrounds already included in the presentation.

    - It's part of the bug. If I save the file with a master page that is not applied to a normal slide, the master is removed. But maybe now it's saved correctly (with all masters) as OTP, I'll try remove some slides (some ones need to stay because of custom font color in different Outline 1 text boxes in the same slide)

    - When saving in the PPT format (part of my solution to the bug), the Slides names are removed and changed to default ones. In both master or normal slides. But I think after saving it back to OTP the names can be changed again.

Thank you for your help! You caught my attention to some points I forgot or even didn't thought.

  5. Here's described a way to "duplicate" a master slide - and if it works my problems of alignment is finished!

  8. Hello Paulo,

    1. To find a bug on IZ
    http://www.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi
select "Presentation" in component, add "background picture" in Summary, let all other fields as default, click "Submit query" and you find the issue I mentioned previously

    2. For extension of the file, sorry I did not notice it was not possible on wiki. Hope it will soon change

    3. You do not need to create all slides to let easy access to slide masters. If you let only one slide in your template, all slide masters included in the template can be accessed through task panel > Master Pages > Used in this Presentation

    4. To have different pictures as background for different master slides, it may be easier than saving in PPT, then saving again in ODP (with conversion risks as you mentioned) to:
    - View > Master > Slide Master
    - Insert > Picture > From File
    - if picture has not the same ratio width/length or is smaller than page size, you need to change dimensions
    - it is not absolutely necessary to put picture at the background: as it is in the slide master, text will be over. However if you (or user of your template) need to change position or format of text frames, it may be a good idea: right click on picture > Arrange > Send to Back
    - right click on slide master in "Slides" panel > Rename master to explain what the master is intended to do. However, after saving as template, first slide master will have the name of the template
    - right click on slide master in "Slides" panel > New master to create a new one and follow same steps

    5. Keep all your slides may be a good idea if user use presentation wizard. At 5th step, you can check which slide to keep. In this case, it is necessary to have significant names for slides.

  9. > Maybe there's another way to switch between backgrounds already included in the presentation

on the status bar, right-click on the current master name. It pops up a menu selection with all your masters.
